Successful Christian Living

1    Make a break with the world.

Never forget that making a decision for Christ and living for Christ are two different things. It’s important to change your environment and find Christian close friends who can support and encourage you as you begin your new life.  This does not mean that you do not associate with non-Christians.  It means that they should not become close personal friends. Bible references: 2 Corinthians 6:14-18, 2 Timothy 2:22

2    Receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Before Jesus left the earth He told His closest friends that if they would wait upon God and pray, a new power and anointing would fill their lives and give them guidance and comfort. That power is the Holy Spirit, and receiving this baptism will take your life to a new level of power and effectiveness.

Bible references: Acts 2:1-4, 1 Corinthians 14:2-4

3    Read the Bible Daily.

No book ever written will ever be as powerful, relevant, or filled with God’s divine inspiration and authority. Make daily Bible reading a priority in your life and you’ll discover a fountain of hope you never dreamed possible!

Bible references: Colossians 3:16, 2 Timothy 2:15

4    Visit with Jesus daily through prayer.

Prayer is something you can do anyplace or anytime, and you don’t need to say “religious sounding” words, or even close your eyes! Just talk to God with a sincere and genuine heart and He will respond in love to your every need.

Bible references: Colossians 4:2, 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18

5    Praise and worship Jesus daily.

Praise Jesus for who he is and what he has done for you.  Worship him daily by joyful songs and thanks.

Bible references: Psalm 100:1-5

6    Be a witness for Jesus

Jesus Christ has done a wonderful thing in your life, and the best way to return that gift is to share Him with someone else! Always be gracious, and make it a habit to share with others the incredible things God has done for you and what He can do for them as well.

Bible references: Acts 1:8, Romans 1:16

7    Give to the Kingdom of God

God created everything that exists and He certainly doesn’t need our money. But He commanded us to give because of what it does for us. The tithe is the first tenth of your income.  Leviticus 27:30 says, “The tithe is the Lord’s and it is holy.” Make a commitment to give the first dime out of every dollar to God and see how He blesses every area of your life.

Bible references: Malachi 3:8-11, Luke 6:38

8    Be baptized by immersion in water.

It’s important to realize that water baptism is the command of Jesus for every believer. Baptism symbolizes a complete break from your former way of life, a death to your old way of living, and a resurrection to a new life in Christ Jesus.

Bible references: Matthew 28:19, Romans 6:3-4

9    Serve others using the gifts that God gives you.

God is the Master life planner! He gives us inborn talents and temperaments, spiritual gifts and all sorts of life experiences for us to use them to help others.

Bible reference: Ephesians 4:11-12

10    Attend church regularly.

Your new Christian walk is the most important step you have ever taken in your life. Make a commitment to yourself and to God to take one day at a time and keep pressing onward, even during the rough times. Attend church regularly and you will find that you will grow and mature in your relationship with the Lord Jesus.

Bible references: Luke 16:10, Hebrews 10:25
